Steps to Tackle QuickBooks Update Company File issue 

 Follow the steps given below to update the QuickBooks company file:

 Step 1.  Installing QuickBooks Desktop

  • Log in to Windows as an Administrator.
  • Download the latest version of the QuickBooks desktop application.
  • Install the latest version by following the on-screen steps.

 Step 2. Prepare QuickBooks Company File

  • Open your QuickBooks desktop version.
  • Next, open the company file you want to upgrade.
  • Open the File Information window by tapping the F2 key on your keyboard.
  • From the File Information section, keep note of the company file location.
  • Now, run the Rebuild tool as it prepares the file for update:
    • In QuickBooks, go to the File menu.
    • Select Utilities.
    • Click Rebuild Data.

 If your company file is on the server computer, move it to your system’s local hard drive before upgrading it. Now, follow the steps given below:

  • Log out of the company file.

  • Next, select the file and click Open.
  • Log in to the company file as an Administrator.
  • Before upgrading, QuickBooks creates a backup of the company file. Select the Change this default
  • location option to save a backup in a particular folder.
  • Click on Update Now to initiate the updating process.
  • Select Done after QuickBooks finishes

Now, the company file is updated. You can open the company file in the new version of QuickBooks. If you have moved the files to a local drive, move them back to the server.
